PRESIDENT Diosdado Macapagal, the “poor boy from Lubao,” had a vision for the country, or claimed he had. But beyond the rhetoric, he couldn’t get the people enthusiastic. He referred to them as the “Common Man,” which wasn’t very flattering. And he didn’t understand why calling them that didn’t endear him to them.
